Is it time to say goodbye to Tony Stark/Iron Man?
Robert Downey Jr has been the iconic superhero of the
Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since his made his debut as Tony Stark in
2008's Iron Man and kick-started the biggest movie franchise ever.
He was still standing at the end of Avengers:
Infinity War, but its untitled sequel, it is highly rumored that Iron man will
die in Avengers 4 and will last movie of Robert Downey Jr in Marvel cinematic
universe.
Will Iron Man die?
It's been highly speculated that Iron Man will die at the climax of Untitled Avengers 4 – Probably some other likely candidates including Chris Evans and maybe Chris Hemsworth has been expected to leave the MCU for some time now, and surprised us by persistent on past.
The climax of wonderful Marvel's Phase Three and pretty much
every stories told since 2008 seems like the perfect place to hit a soft reset
and allow some of these actors to hang up their costumes after a decade of
service.
But does that mean that Tony is going to die? Will he
never shows up again in the MCU, but it's not the only option.
Gwyneth Paltrow seemingly let slip that Pepper Potts and Tony will marry and end up with a child (and not just the dream child Iron Man mentioned in Infinity War). Could a happy ending be on the cards for him?
If Marvel wants something from left field, they could
even follow the controversial comic’s storyline 'The Crossing', which saw Iron
Man killed and replaced by a 19-year-old version of him from the past. This
would be a way of recasting Tony, although we can't really see them going with
it as it was unpopular enough the first time around.
Whatever happens to Tony, it looks as though Brie
Larson's Captain Marvel is being lined up as the new 'face of the MCU', so
Downey's days at the head of the franchise are surely numbered.
Time travel?
Photos from the set of Avengers 4 of characters in their
old costumes have led to a widely-held theory that the movie will see our
heroes travel through time in a bid to undo Thanos' actions in Infinity War.
As for Tony, it looks like he might be heading back in a
bid to save Loki's life, which will apparently involve him dressing up as a
SHIELD agent. But what's with the blond hair? You're not fooling anyone.
Suit upgrade?
Iron Man Godkiller Armour
It's pretty much tradition now that Tony will get a tech
upgrade for each movie, and Infinity War introduced some major enhancements to
the Iron Man armour and armaments. Surely Marvel Studios won't miss the
opportunity for a (potentially final) level up for our favourite Avenger.
Fans have been speculating (wildly) that the Godkiller
Armour could show up in Avengers 4. There are actually two suits that go by
that name. One is the Model 45 Deep-Space Armour, which Tony donned in the
comics to travel off-planet as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The
other was a gigantic suit created to destroy Celestials – a literal God killer.
Either would be of great use in the fight against Thanos (or whatever other
threats the film throws at the Avengers).
Doctor Strange may Know Tony Stark’s Death?
Probably the death of Tony Stark won't fix anything for
the better - the world will be more unsafe without Iron Man, and Peter won't
have his suggestions to follow any further. But Infinity War shows the real
endgame Tony has been preparing for since The Avengers: there are no good
choices left, and alive or not, the Tony dreaming of raising a child with
Pepper in the film's first scenes is not the one left shaken in its ending.
There may be only one possible course of action for Tony Stark to take... and
Doctor Strange may have already revealed the price it will cost.
Some fans have already noticed that Doctor Strange's plan
is deeper than it seems. With little respect or reverence for Tony on their way
to the planet Titan, Strange seems to grasp the threat of Thanos more than
anyone. A point he makes clear when stating that he would allow death to claim
all other heroes before he ever gave up the Stone.
Until he looks into the future, and reveals to Tony - in
carefully considered, somber words, and we would argue with seemingly higher
regard for Tony from that point on - that of the millions of failures, there is
"just one" path that doesn't end in total defeat. In turning over the
Time Stone to keep Tony alive, Strange reveals Iron Man is - given his previous
claims - the most important person to this story going forward. And as Strange
turns to dust, it isn't advice or insight into the future he offers with a quip
or dig.
